This might sound like a strange question but what determines whether you get a 3-spoke or 4-spoke steering wheel?

While most A3s and A4s I've been looking at (mainly 2006s and 2007s) have the three spoke wheel some of them oddly have a 4-spoke steering wheel. The thing is it seems to have very little to do with how the car is optioned

For example I've seen the 4-spoke on some A4 S-Lines (insted of an S-Line wheel?), and some cars with Navi (which are usually higher end/higher optioned cars) but then at the same time see the same cars with the 3-spoke as well.

I can't figure out for the life of me how this option occurs. It doesn't seem to coincide with any other options to me.

Also I have a similar question about the driver's power seat in the A3. Again I've seen lots of A3s with nearly every option (tech, sport, convenience, open sky) and then a manual driver's seat. While I've seen lesser equipped A3s with the power seat.

Can anyone shed some light on the steering wheel (A3 and A4) is determined, and how you get the power driver's seat in the A3?

I think I figured out the seats issue...

Seems the 06 A3 with sport package gave manual seats, while the premium package was power driver? Is that correct?

For 07 S-Line replaced the sport package but the same thing applied. 08, S-Line got a power driver's seat as well.

Steering wheel I still don't get though

Steering wheel depends on the options as I recall in the older models the 4spoke only came with the tech package such as bluetooth and stereo controls etc. now they have the 3 spoke with the same controls on the s-line. And the 3 spoke comes with the sport package

yeah I'm still a little confused about this. what 1move said is pretty much what I saw as well.
The tricky thing is there is the 08 A4 Special Edition which all come with power/memory seats as well
Either way, I hate the 4spoke wheel... so sport package is the way to go to get the 3 spoke.
The 3spoke at least has the volume and track control but the 4 spoke still has many more functions right on the wheel
